Parts with many difficult masked areas were being sprayed in three coats of wet paint. New petro-chemical industry safety legislation demanded perfect precision in the masking process.
We developed a one-coat system , allowing critical areas to be viewed for faults immediately after coating.
A critical component required a finish that was highly resistant to petrol yet could be stoved at low temperature and sprayed electro-statically.
As no suitable product was available, we developed a coating in close association with our suppliers, fully testing the product prior to production.
We inherited the coating of an exterior set of parts for a premium automotive manufacturer that was causing an 80% reject rate at the previous supplier. Within days we had achieved a greater than 90% RFT rate on a very aesthetic part working with a very low quality substrate. Over time, our six sigma engineers improved the process in a structured manner to improve this further whilst also implementing a significant improvement to the specification offered to the customer also virtually eliminating warranty failures in the field.
The in-house powder coating facility of a local engineering company was damaged by fire late one Friday afternoon. We visited the same day, produced samples the following Monday and Tuesday and were in full scale production on their behalf by Wednesday morning.
A major automotive manufacturer was unhappy with the finish on components from their moulders. Desperate to salvage these components, they sought advice from Frederick Cooper.
After running samples late that evening, we were rectifying all their stocks the next day by spraying over the imperfections. The appearance was improved so much that the finish was written into the specification.
